Shuffle Synchronicities: Volume 1 - #180
"Wow - TOKiMONSTA Remix" by Beck - 07/01/21
Hey! Just a friendly reminder that the summer quarterly album post just came out yesterday. It’s about Kanye West’s JESUS IS KING, and you can read it here, by subscribing to a paid option or Venmoing whatever you can and I’ll forward it to you.
"Wow - TOKiMONSTA Remix" by Beck
This is one of my favorite Beck songs!
Well, the original:
and the other remix:
But yeah it’s one of the most danceable of his songs (and he has a lot of danceable ones!).
Apparently, Beck didn’t even know he had a hit on his hands:
As he told Zane Lowe, he almost didn’t give the tune to his record label, since he feared it came together too quickly and therefore might not be up to snuff. His kids talked him into it, though, and the label liked it enough to make it a single.
The trap-influenced beat and quirky snippet-sample song ended up certified Gold.
Lyrically, Genius.com notes “It’s all about seizing the day and trying your best and going through life with that sense of wonder that’s been present in so much of Beck’s best music.”
The song was shuffled to while I was writing the long sentence book in the final third after I had the spiritual awakening and was no longer painfully ambitious and angry (or much less so).
and “Wow” by Beck with Guau Mexican Institute of Sound remix is playing and put it on and dance, dance between the two worlds, the spiritual and the material, just dance baby, with the luminous moves, like, wow, it’s like right now, it’s like, right now, it’s like wow, do you feel it, it’s just a big party this life, it’s like, wow, it’s like right now, it’s just another perfect night, and my dad was a great dancer, he once held a dance contest on top of his classroom’s physics tables dancing to Michael Jackson with gloves on and everything against the kids, and which the kids still remembered years later when they saw him,
Which I would add to now this part of the bridge:
It's your life
You gotta try to get it right
Because it reminds me of the Chance the Rapper and Cardi B song “Best Life”.
Which is important because Beck originally wanted Chance to feature on “Wow.”
As he told NME:
“I like the new Chance The Rapper record a lot. Four or five months ago we tried to get Chance on “Wow.” I’m not sure what happened with that.”
But he did collaborate with his kids on his music video.
Who you can see dancing in some of the shots.
Fathers and kids dancing?
Seems like I had it right in the book above ;)
Okay, that’s the one hundred and eightieth Shuffle Synchronicities.
