Shuffle Synchronicities: Volume 1 - #238
"I Would Like to See You Again" by Johnny Cash - 09/12/21
"I Would Like to See You Again" by Johnny Cash
This is the title track of Johnny Cash’s 1978 album. it peaked at #12 on the singles chart, and it was his 57th album.
The lyrics:
I was sittin' here thinking about old times, some old times, some old friends
And suddenly it crossed my mind, that I would like, to see you again
Remember how we used to walk and talk, walk and talk holding hands
Said we loved each other I recall, made a lot of future plans
Made me reflect on the advice I received from my therapist last week regarding my (ex?)-wife.
I showed the therapist her responses to my texts inviting her to my sister’s wedding in August, which ended vehemently.
The therapist advised giving her space, and for me to work on grieving the relationship and acknowledging that it takes two people to be in one.
But the years have come and gone, and a whole lot has happened since then
But tonight babe your memory's awfully strong on my mind
And I would like to see you again
We talked about the vision I had again at Esalen of us getting back together in the future.
The therapist mentioned that even if visions are true sometimes they can take years.
Biblically, it took the Jews forty years to reach the promised land.
I asked what do I do in between.
The therapist said they didn’t know.
But that they thought that G-d was sort of like a GPS.
Whatever direction you go in, he/she/it will work with you.
Re-calibrating.
It was strange to receive a directive, let alone a fairly strong directive, from this therapist.
Which is very unusual for them.
But look at Cash’s advice:
It's funny how an old flame comes back, come on back make you blue
But I just saw a picture of a railroad track, and some old shack and me and you
Guess I'd better straighten out my mind, straighten it out, go to bed
And pray that I don't dream about old times, some old times, gone and dead
‘Guess I'd better straighten out my mind, straighten it out.’
Lastly, I went to a potential venue today for the one-year anniversary of the Shuffle Synchronicities Substack.
And it was perfect!
So fun!
I heard a local musician Grap3Z, an emo-type rapper, who had this song, about ‘twin flames’ that I really liked.
Check out the video I recorded of it below:
The space is run by Lokels Only, which is a Community Space for Local Chefs, Artists, Creatives & Small Biz, and the event was a Taco Championship covered by L.A. Taco.
I had this fried cheese and pork belly delight from Las Gorditas:
The whole thing felt like something that might be found in my tennis partner today Rosecrans Baldwin’s book about LA:
Everything Now: Lessons from the City-State of Los Angeles.
For those keeping score at home, he beat me 6-3.
You might have noticed yesterday, I started a new thing where I feature other Substacks.
Today we’re featuring Rosecrans’ Substack!
Check out his recent post for Meditations in an Emergency about tennis!
Yesterday’s featuring of OG music critic Wayne Robins’ Substack already seems to have done its job, as he’s got a great idea for a guest post, so look out for that soon!
Personally, ‘I would like to see you’ all ‘again’, January 8th, 1 - 5 PM at the Shuffle Synchronicities Substack One-Year Anniversary Party, at this beautiful DTLA location, which I did indeed book today! More info to come!
Okay, that’s the two hundred and thirty-eighth Shuffle Synchronicities.
