And with that…
Here’s the ninth Shuffle Synchronicity!
“Silently” by Blonde Redhead
Silently, I wish to sail into your port, I am your sailor
Quietly, I drop my weight into your sea, I drop my anchor
I sway in your waves, I sing in your sleep
I stay till I'm in your life
My soon-to-be-ex-wife and I met at a film and television writing school in Los Angeles when we were 21 and 24, where we learned that a scene shouldn’t be in a script unless it has conflict.
The story we always told at parties about how we fell in love is that she was the maid of honor for a student friend's bachelorette party, but couldn’t find a stripper.
So I got naked for them: small penis, big confidence, somehow won her heart. From that night on, we were inseparable.
But the other story she sometimes told was that one day when we were dating, I brought a bunch of my stuff over in a garbage bag and never left.
I realize now you're not to be blamed my love
You didn't choose your name my love
You never crossed the seven seas
I realize now you're not to be blamed my love
You didn't choose your name my love
You never crossed the seven seas
One way of looking at the line, “You didn’t choose your name my love,” is to say:
I am an Aries with an Aries in Venus as well, so I rushed into things full-boar. While she is a Virgo, who was pickier and careful.
Oh, sweet creature
I know exactly how you feel
Your clock is ticking, tick tack tick tack
Your heart is beating tum tum tum tum tum
I first proposed to her when my father almost died. I said the near-death experience crystalized what was important in life.
I proposed with a screenplay I wrote just for her about the history of our relationship, but she refused, perhaps because there was too much conflict in some of the scenes.
Silently, I wish to sail into your port, I am your sailor
Quietly, I drop my weight into your sea, I drop my anchor
But we stayed together, and in my memory at least, she initiated the next conversation that led to my second proposal, which we planned together, and which she accepted.
I realize now you're not to be blamed at all
You didn't choose your name my love
You die a little in my arm
Churchill said, “My most brilliant achievement was my ability to be able to persuade my wife to marry me.”
But he also said, “My wife and I tried to breakfast together, but we had to stop or our marriage would have been wrecked.”
I realize now you're not to be blamed at all
You didn't choose your name my love
We never crossed the seven seas
I realize now you die a little in my arm
Before you even taste my love
At my dad’s funeral, I was told by a friend that she told him a third story I had never heard about how we fell in love: that she helped me quit cigarettes.
Up until today, I had thought that story didn’t bode well for our relationship based on the way the friend thought it was strange.
But now I am remembering how she had said if we were to keep dating, I had to quit cigarettes, which I had been addicted to for four years.
The next day I quit. And have never smoked cigarettes again.
A doctor friend of mine once said that drug cessation sometimes only happens when the fear of the loss of something or the hope of gaining something becomes so significant and empowering that the habit is finally let go of with ease.
We never crossed the seven seas
I realize now you’re not to be blamed at all
You didn't choose your name my love
You die a little in my arm
I realize now
Last night, while reading a book, I had a moment where I worried that I never showed my dad how much I loved him.
I shuffled the Spotify Liked Songs playlist then, and Ratatat’s “Gettysburg” came on.
My dad is forever associated in me with his hero Abraham Lincoln, and I think of my dad also as the spirit that DJs my Spotify shuffle synchronicities.
Laura Lynne Jackson says ~“Each of us has a Team of Light--a group of unseen helpers who work together to guide us to our highest path. This team is made up of our loved ones who have crossed, our spirit guides (also commonly known as guardian angels) a higher angelic realm, and God energy, which is based in the strongest force there is or ever will be: love. If you open your mind and heart to the secret language your Team of Light uses, the very way you live your life will change…Here are many of the most common default signs sent by the Other Side: birds and butterflies, deer, electrical events often with cellphones, coins appearing in our path, rainbows, pictures, slogans, billboards, magazines, license plates, street signs, feathers, ladybugs, numerical sequence, and music/songs.”
Okay, that’s the ninth Shuffle Synchronicities.
