Preamble - Shuffle Synchronicities Podscript 🎙📇 with Ray Padgett
+ "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right (Witmark Demo - 1963) [No Direction Home]" by Bob Dylan
NOTE: Recommend getting the free Substack App.
Some posts are a bit too long for email inboxes like Gmail.
And they’re getting really too good to miss!
It’s kinda one of those This American Life’s Ira Glass moments where years of hard work/growth produce a form that lines up with the ‘killer taste’ that was always there.
Or maybe it’s just what astrologer Chani Nicholas wrote a week ago, “WELCOME SAGITTARIUS SEASON! LOUD TMI! ENTHUSIASTIC PHILOSOPHIZING! AGGRESSIVE OPTIMISM!…”
Or a both/and + more ;)
So, yeah, now that you got the Substack app.
You got the app, right?
Either way…
The Preamble to The Shuffle Synchronicities Podscript 🎙📇 with Ray Padgett
begins now!
One of the things that happened after one year of daily posts and a few extra after a generous and influential shoutout on NPR by Kiana Fitzgerald.
(Who was also the first guest on the first Shuffle Synchronicities Podcast!)
Was that on the night of Thursday, June 16th, 2022, there was an ecstatic epiphany about the effects of writing about others without their, um, consent.
Which was well and good.
In the penultimate post that night, taking time off did seem quite necessary 😵💫
But then instead of individually unpublishing posts of Shuffle Synchronicities.
To look for a new approach.
It was all impulsively deleted.
🚨
This meant Substack’s Engineers couldn’t bring any of it back.
So it wasn’t just that all of the posts had to be manually re-entered.
The entire email list was lost, too 😱
This, however, did provide extensive time for the opportunity
Not just to ⚡️ ‘invent’ 🤨 the idea of Post-Memoir 🧼🗣
Which, if you’re highfalutin’, like, um, people who want to try to use we/us/our pronouns while writing sometimes now instead of the pronouns me/I.
It means:
The ethical aesthetic of the extreme effacement of the personal identifiers and details of the other subjects in an autobiographical narrative.
It also gave time to add as many contacts to the free email list as possible.
Hello new free subscribers 😘
(You’re all always welcome to Unsubscribe at the bottom button, but, um 💔)
The last line of that penultimate post before deleting the Substack was:

It’s not only the form of Post-Memoir 🧼🗣 that’s finally enabled perhaps the telling of the story of that night & decision & ramifications in the ‘right and good and true way.’
It’s been the Podcasting format🎙!
And also the Podcast/Transcript format, too!
Don’t yet have a new highfalutin’ name for that ⚡️ ‘invention’ 🤨
But it’ll likely be found.
Perhaps even before the end of the drafting of this post 😉
Suffice it to say:
The first Podcast and production of a Transcript with Kiana Fitzgerald went perfectly.
[It’s in part an intersectional conversation between 🖖🏻✡️ & ✊🏾✝️ about our bipolar experiences vis-a-vis Kanye West if you need help understanding that situation 🤕]
It was so fun to record and edit.
The respect & love & good energy shared between us was palpable.
Remarked upon by those who listened.
As well as many who preferred to read.
It couldn’t have gone better IMHO 👏
Infinite Perfection ♾️👌
But…
This second one is Infinite Perfection ♾️👌 x Infinite Perfection ♾️👌 = INFP ♾️👌²
Oops, have to come up with a better notation, Madames Myers & Briggs.
Point is:
The audio of the full Podcast is already available to listen to:
It’s with Ray Padgett.
Who wrote the second guest post on Shuffle Synchronicities: Volume 1, and just so happens to be a leading expert in Bob Dylan concerts…
On Substack!
With his currently top 12 in the paid music category, Flagging Down the Double E’s ;)
Podcast #2 with Ray has some fun formal inventions.
New even since Podcast & Transcript #1 with Kiana.
There are now some song-jump-cuts interjected into the conversation.
These 🎶 🎞 function as added crit/witt-icism.
So look out for the lyrics there.
And IMHO the 🎶🎞 also help exemplify the embodiment of experiencing synchronicities ✨
Not just in ‘my’ mind (& soul)
But in YOURS
So you can have more of them yourself 🥳
(Look at that! We broke part of the Post-Memoir form to use only we/us/our and no I/me/my pronouns)
These 🎶🎞 were also added to the Podscript🎙📇
Look at that! A name was coined for the ‘invention’ 🙄
Via what Substack calls Audio embeds.

While the audio of the full Podcast is already available to listen to here:
Also recommend checking it out in the Podscript🎙📇 form
Which will be emailed out in Eight (crazy) Parts! throughout the week.

Once again, um, also suggest getting the…
But, oh, yeah, right…the story of this post’s song!
"Don't Think Twice, It's All Right (Witmark Demo - 1963) [No Direction Home]" by Bob Dylan
Someone, who has worked in the upper echelons of radio and media, noted last week that these 🎶🎞 aren’t really at all OK vis-a-vis copyright.
If you’ve followed along with other work, perhaps you’ve noticed a not-quite-complete disregard…
…but perhaps a pointed push-back against the ongoing creep of “intellectual property”…
…as well as a proud proclamation of the values of ‘intellectual freedom’ instead…
(Thank you, Lewis Hyde, author of The Gift and Common As Air, for teaching those ideas, even if they’re perhaps ideals!)
So, even though:
The Haggadahs parodying Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm could be considered by some people 👨🏻💼👩🏽⚖️ to just be published spec episodes
The Spiritual Instagram book appropriates memes without finding out who ‘owns’ them ™️
And, of course, there were the lyrics quoted in Volume 1 of the Shuffle ⚖️
This all did give a bit of pause ⏸
Especially when that same person was seen again.
Though we didn’t talk about the copyrights of the 🎶🎞 another time.
Anxiety 🙀 still arose while driving to the day job after.
So the Shuffle 🔀 was asked for insight ✨
Something, like, should this be done differently
Or just go with it as is
⏯?
And yes, the song that was shuffled to, was…
Again, like usual here, no joke/no lie…
But 😮…
Bob Dylan
Don’t think twice, it’s all right.
So, whoever is still reading this too-long preamble, all is not for naught…
We ▶️ on
The first of the eight parts of the Podscript🎙📇 will be emailed to you shortly.
In which we start by introducing Ray and the subject of Bob Dylan playing live & talk about:
Why Dylan's performances are so unusual and produce such polarizing audience responses
The mechanics of how Dylan conducts his band differently from other musicians
How band members have described the gig
And the meaning perhaps of Dylan’s inclusion in the Pixar movie’s Soul soundtrack
Don’t want to wait for all the Podscript posts to be emailed to you?
The audio of the full Podcast is already available to listen to here:
Thanks for reading this Preamble!
And for supporting Volume 2 of Shuffle Synchronicities.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the posts to come
