"Modern Kicks" by The Exploding Hearts
Strangely enough, we got a repeat song, out of over 37,000, from just a few days ago, post 197.
In that post, I wrote about picking up someone I was newly dating from the airport and finding it romantic despite the negativity of the song’s depiction of modern romance:
Hearts are breaking now, she says I don't care (don't care)
That short relationship has been over since Monday.
But something new might be cooking.
She’s a therapist from LA, who is a big music fan.
She loves Phish, who I don’t know very well, and I’ve been getting into The Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia, who she doesn’t know that well.
So we’ve been trading some music.
However, she’s taking a vacation and returning just as I take my vacation in mid-August.
So I sent her:
“Sitting In Limbo - Live” by Jerry Garcia Band
As we both seem to be a bit sitting in limbo in this fledgling relationship.
I love the lyrics, originally written by Jimmy Cliff:
Yeah, now, sitting here in limbo
Got some time to search my soul
Well, they're putting up a resistance
But I know that my faith will lead me on
I don't know where life will leave me
But I know where I have been
I can't say what life will show me
But I know what I have seen
Tried my hand at love and friendship
But all that is past and gone
This little boy is moving on
I feel a bit this way these days.
That I can’t say what life will show me. But I know what I have been.
That I’ve tried my hand at love. But all that is past and gone.
But I’m moving on. And my faith will lead me on.
In a Synchronicity perhaps, tomorrow, August 1st, would have been Jerry’s 79th birthday!
Okay, that’s the two hundred and tenth Shuffle Synchronicities.
