Shuffle Synchronicities: Volume 1 - #353
"Closer" by The Chainsmokers, Halsey - 01/13/22
"Closer" by The Chainsmokers, Halsey
This was one of the most popular songs of 2016, and perhaps of all time.
On the March-25-dated chart, âCloserâ tied LeAnn Rimesâ 32-week record for âHow Do I Liveâ from 1997 of being in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10.
Itâs a song about a former couple who re-meet years later.
And hook-up again.
Both perhaps not learning their lesson with the anthemic line:
We ainât ever getting older
But also perhaps enjoying the young-at-heart freedom of the moment:
We ainât ever getting older
It feels a bit like a memoiristic synchronicity, because I continue to get âcloserâ to the end of the one-year mark of this project.
One year was the length I had promised myself and you all to write a post daily.
Iâm excited to be âcloseâ to the end.
To take a break.
And to try some new projects.
But Iâve also been looking through and selecting posts, putting them into a document.
In order to create an abridged book, which Iâve mentioned:
Shuffle Synchronicities: Selections from the Substack
Itâs been interesting noticing what I noticed, sort of noticed, and didnât notice at the time.
For instance, during a date with the childrenâs TV writer who had won an Emmy, the song âModern Kicksâ by The Exploding Hearts was shuffled-to here.
It had the lyrics:
You wanna give give give but I don't wanna take
Getting modern kicks
Which ended up summing up our dating experience, even I didnât want to fully notice it at the time.
And then that same song was shuffled-to again when I started up a new romance with the therapist woman here.
Then at the end of that post, âSitting in Limboâ by Jerry Garcia, came up
âŚafter the popular post about going to the James Blake concert with the therapist and our hook-up after here and our ending of our dating after our next date here and hereâŚ
A version of that Jerry Garcia song âSitting in Limboâ then became the shuffled-to-song the day after the date with the trans woman here.
So, in a way, the three most significant IRL dating experiences of the year of posts, besides perhaps this new dating experience with the Comedy Gogo Dance Teacher, were all connected.
With meaning that I might have missed even more if I wasnât writing about them on the Substack.
A friend of mine mentioned something about this, she said:
âI've kept a journal all my life and itâs always fun to look back and see threads that appear again and againâ.
So with only 12 more daily posts left to be exact.
I wonder what it will be like to stop.
And also if thereâs something invaluable about continuing daily.
Something perhaps about learning how to mature while also remaining young at heart.
We ainât ever getting older
Something perhaps about âHow Do I Liveâ as LeAnn Rimes might sing.
Okay, thatâs the three hundred and fifty-third Shuffle Synchronicities.
